KENYA: Catholic University of Eastern Africa Giving back to the Community

The aftermath of a devastating fire that razed down Kijiji slums in Southlands, Langata left 6000 residents homeless. This prompted the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) community to come together to offer donations to the stranded residents affected by the incident.

Led by CUEA community service coordinator, Merab Ochieng’ the donations drive was announced where faculty members and students were able to provide much needed clothing and also food stuffs. These were delivered on Friday, February 2.

Deputy Director National Disaster Management Unit, Pius Masai received the items and expressed the great need for food items as the food is quickly depleted due to the high number of victims.

On that day, students volunteered their time by visiting the affected families, giving them moral support and interacting with the children.

A large number of Kijiji residents are currently sheltering at the nearby Ngei Primary school a few meters away from the fire site. Many have little more than the clothes on their back.
