AMECEA: Justice Peace Caritas Department to have a new Coordinator by February 2018

AMECEA Secretariat is set to fill the vacancy in the office of the Coordinator of Justice Peace and Caritas Department. The position which fell vacant following the departure of Antony Mbandi in August, 2017, is currently being held by Sr. Tabitha Nyawira of Assumption Sisters of Nairobi in an acting capacity. Sr. Tabitha is the Programs Officer in the department.

Secretary General of AMECEA Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Lugonzo who was addressing participants of Caritas AMECEA Zone Meeting on the Review on the Caritas Internationalis Management Standards in Nairobi Kenya on 14th, December, 2017, said that the process of replacing Mbandi is currently on going and the prospects are promising.

While expressing his gratitude to the participants of the meeting who included National Coordinators/Directors of Justice and Peace Departments, National Directors/Coordinators of Caritas Departments as well as National Coordinators of Health Departments from AMECEA Region for responding within a very short notice, Fr. Lugonzo in a very special way thanked the former coordinator of AMECEA Justice Peace and Caritas Department Antony Mbandi whom he credited for creating the forum.

“Within a short period of his tenure, Mbandi was able to bring together the forum of National Coordinators/Directors of Justice and Peace departments and National Directors/Coordinators of Caritas Departments and the AMECEA Bishops are very happy with the Forum. On your behalf may it go on record that we are grateful for what he was able to achieve and encourage that we continue with this spirit,” Fr. Lugonzo said.

He further said that the secretariat targets to have a new coordinator for the department is February, 2018, in the hope that with Collaborations from AMECEA Member Conferences, Justice Peace and Caritas Department shall be getting a substantive Coordinator.

“Again we are still open to your input, we wrote to the conferences about proposing a suitable candidate, it has been slow but of late we have started getting some names. So I believe that the more ideas we get from the conferences shall lead us to getting the right person,” he said.
