The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ethiopia during its 42nd Ordinary Assembly held on 18 – 21 July 2017, has appointed Rev. Fr. Teshome Fikire as the Deputy Secretary General and Pastoral Commission Director of Ethiopian Catholic Secretariat (ECS).The position of the Deputy Secretary General fell vacant when the Holy Father in April appointed Rev. Fr. Seyoum Fransuaas Apostolic Vicar of Hossana.
According to a letter sent to AMECEA online news by the Ethiopian Catholic Secretariat (ECS), the newly appointed Deputy Secretary General and Director of Pastoral Department Fr. Teshome (45 years old) studied in Rome at the Pontifical Lateran University from 2002 – 2007 and obtained Licentiate and Doctorate Degree in Canon Law. He also studied at the Pontifical Urbanian University and obtained a Bachelor Degree in Divinity. From 1991 – 1997 Fr. Teshome studied Philosophy and Theology at the Franciscan Institute of Philosophy and Theology in Addis Ababa.
Fr. Teshome has served the Church as the Parish Priest in Attat Lourd Mariam Parish and has been the Deanery Youth Chaplain between the years 1998 – 2002. From 2007 until his appointment to serve at ECS he was working as the Vicar General and Diocesan Director for Eparchy of Emdibir.
During his time in Edimbir Fr. Teshome is said to have successfully accomplished Pastoral and Social Ministries that have significantly changed the lives of the community members. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ethiopia has expressed their gratitude to Rt. Rev. Musie Ghebreghiorghis, O.F.M. Cap. The Eparch of Emdibir, and the people of Eparchy of Emdibir for releasing Fr. Teshome for the service of the Church at a national level.
They have also expressed their confidence that Fr. Teshome will serve the Church and the people of God even better than before for the Glory of God expressing their prayerful support in his new ministry.

“We believe most of you already have good acquaintance with Fr. Teshome on his former position as Vicar General and Diocesan Director for the Eparchy of Emdibir. ECS would like to call upon its’ partners to collaborate with Fr. Teshome and his team in all matters that have to do with the Secretariat in general and the Pastoral Commission in particular as of 1st September, 2017,” Abba Hagos explained.
