TANZANIA: AMECEA Mourns Fr Marandu – TEC Pastoral Coordinator

AMECEA Secretariat has joined the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) in mourning their former National Pastoral Coordinator, Rev. Fr. Gallus Marandu, CSSP who died on Sunday 26 in Dar-es-Salaam after a short illness.

Fr maranduIn a message sent to the TEC by AMECEA Deputy Secretary General Rev. Fr. Chrisantus Ndaga, on behalf of AMECEA Chairman H.E. Cardinal Berhaneyesus Souraphiel, Metropolitan Archbishop of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and AMECEA Secretariat, the late Fr. Marandu is described as a close collaborator of AMECEA in the service of people of God, especially his contribution towards addressing key Pastoral issues of common concern in AMECEA Region.

Two weeks before his death, Fr. Marandu was among the participants of AMECEA Pastoral Coordinators Meeting in Addis Ababa Ethiopia from 6th to 9th March 2017, where among the major issues discussed included formulation of terms of references for National and Diocesan Pastoral Coordinators in the AMECEA Region as well as an elaborate study and discussion of the Post Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia and its impact to the Church in the region.

Although Fr. Marandu fell ill while attending that particular meeting and sought medical assistance in Addis Ababa, he proceeded to join the AMECEA Training on Resource Mobilization for Key Pastoral Agents in the Region. The participants of the training included National Pastoral Coordinators, National Communications Coordinators as well as other media Practitioner from AMECEA member Countries.

The training which also took place in Addis Ababa Ethiopia was conducted from 9th to 12th March, 2018. His ill health notwithstanding, Fr. Marandu Participated actively to the end.

“While accepting God’s will with humility, we thank Almighty God for the gift of Fr. Gallus Marandu to the Church and for the selfless service, which he rendered to the people of God while serving the Catholic Secretariat of Tanzania and to the greater extent AMECEA Region,” stated the message of condolence from AMECEA to TEC.

AMECEA Chairman of Pastoral Department, Rt. Rev. Philip Anyolo told AMECEA Online News that he was shocked by the demise of Fr. Marandu.

Bishop Anyolo who is also the Chairman of Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) and Bishop of Homabay Diocese was among the Participants of Both Pastoral Coordinators Meeting in Addis Ababa as well as the AMECEA Resource Mobilization Training in Addis Ababa expressed his utmost condolences to the Tanzania Episcopal Conference and the family of Fr. Marandu.
