The Archbishop of Blantyre, Most Rev Thomas Luke Msusa has applauded the Catholic Women of the Archdiocese for being proactive in the care for the environment in line with Pope Francis’s Laudato Si.

Speaking at the end of a Leadership training workshop organised for women by the Pastoral Department of the Archdiocese from 17th to 19th March 2017, Archbishop Msusa made reference to  a tree-planting project, which the Catholic Women Organisation launched in February this year in partnership with the National Bank of Malawi of which 21,000 trees have been planted.

“I am happy as our mothers, with what you are doing in the Archdiocese. To be more effective you need knowledge of the Church doctrines and proper leadership skills. From this training workshop, I encourage you to go out to all the 41 Parishes of the Archdiocese and be active agents of evangelisation,” he said while urging them to be effective agents of evangelisation in homes and workplaces.

Archbishop Msusa also asked the women to take care of the youth, imploring them in a special way to pray for the coming Synod of the Youth.

Pastoral Secretary of the Archdiocese of Blantyre, Fr. Alfred Chaima thanked the women for attending the workshop, which was organised to empower them. He said his office is organising such training workshops for various groups in the Archdiocese as part of on-going formation.

“Catholic women do a lot of work in the Church. We learn the faith from them. They are good-willed, but good will alone is not enough. They need skills and knowledge to do their work properly. So we have trained them in basic leadership skills, Church doctrine, Self-relience and how to care for their families,” explained Fr Chaima.

Participants to the workshop were drawn from all the Parishes of the Archdiocese.
