The
Catholic diocese of Ifakara has recently conducted a four-day Capacity building
workshop training to key Pastoral agents of evangelization as a preparation to
set up a communication office and strategies for the new Diocese.

The
workshop which was facilitated by AMECEA Office of Communication was held at
Ifakara from 18 -21 November, 2013 and attracted participants from all over the
Diocese. The participants included the Priests, Religious Sisters, and Leaders
of the council of laity, Youth and other Catholic Associations Leaders and
Catechists.
According
to Fr Wenceslaus Kayera, the Secretary General of the Diocese who is also heading
Communication department, the workshop training aimed at preparing the ground
for the establishment of a Three-Year Strategic Plan of communication for the
new Diocese of Ifakara.
Speaking
during the opening ceremony of the workshop training, the Bishop of the Ifakara
Diocese Rt. Rev. Salutaris Libena said the training is part of the plan that every
department within the diocese has to conduct such kind of training in view of
establishing a strategic pastoral plan for the Diocese of Ifakara.
Participants during the training workshop session
Bishop Libena said communication is
very vital in the whole pastoral mission of the Church. The Church as a
communion-in-mission has to begin by evangelizing herself by the life and
ministry of Jesus. Evangelization similar to communication, calls us to share
the Good News, Christ Message with other people.
“That is why we say that Social
Communication is intimately linked with Evangelization mission of the Church
within herself (ad intra) and to the outside world (ad extra). This
involves also all areas of human behavior, thought patterns, social and
cultural dynamics, environment and modern technology,” he said.
Commenting
on the training the AMECEA Secretary for Social Communications Fr. Chrisantus Ndaga
who was the general facilitator of the workshop training said the participants
responded very well to the topics presents and wished that the same could done
to other groups within the diocese.
Fr.
Ndaga said that the training started by giving some introduction on
communication followed by establishing communication needs/priorities for the Diocese
vis-a-vis Evangelization role through
media and finally set up some strategic plans for implementation as the way forward
of the workshop.
The
workshop Training was funded by the Pastoral mission of the Archdiocese of
Toronto, Canada.
The new Diocese of Ifakara was erected on January 14, 2012, by the Holy
Father Benedict XVI with territory taken from the Diocese of Mahenge, making it
a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Dar-es-Salaam. The new diocese of Ifakara is
