AMECEA: AMECEA Mourns the Death of Cardinal Mazombwe

AMECEA has received with great shock the news about the death of
H.E. Medardo Cardinal Mazombwe of Zambia.

Cardinal Mazombwe is remembered in AMECEA for his dedication as
Chairman of the Association from 1979 to 1986 and the
first Chancellor of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA).

On 30
November 2010 Archbishop Mazombwe was made Cardinal and
thus, joined the group of AMECEA Patrons.

Last year’ Cardinal Mazombwe was nominated by the AMECEA Executive
Board to be a member in the AMECEA Peace and Solidarity Committee.

Speaking to
AMECEA online News, The AMECEA Secretary General Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Lugonzo said
that the loss of Cardinal Mazombwe is not only affecting the Church of Zambia but also  AMECEA Region and
the Universal Church as well.

Cardinal Mazombwe will be remembered for his selfless
service not only as a Shepherd of the People of God entrusted to their care,
but also for his contribution to the entire family of AMECEA; and that the
family of AMECEA is united with the Zambian Episcopal Conference in praying for
him.

May he Rest in Peace. AMEN
