KENYA: Cardinal Otunga Plaza Blessed and Officially Opened

Cardinal Otunga Plaza
which is meant to host the Nairobi Arch Diocese and other offices was blessed
and officially opened on 16th August 2013 by the Kenya Conference of
Catholic Bishops Chairman and the Nairobi Arch Diocese Arch Bishop, John Cardinal
Njue.
Speaking during the
Inauguration, His Eminence John Cardinal Njue said the opening and blessing of
the Nairobi Archdiocese Secretariat was a significant step adding that the
Church is keen in shaping the destiny of the Country.
Cardinal Njue said the
Church is determined to do things in a bigger and better way, efficiently and
effectively in order to address the ills of the country. He asked God to bless
all those who contributed towards the construction of the Plaza.

Meanwhile, in his
Homily during the holy mass at Holy Family Minor Basilica, Nairobi Archdiocese
Auxiliary Bishop David Kamau revealed that the idea of putting up the plaza was
conceived by the Servant of God Michael Cardinal Otunga who also had the
architectural design in mind. 
Bishop Kamau appealed
to the faithful to pray for the beatification of Maurice Cardinal Otunga and
also make intercession thorough him especially during the blessing of the
Plaza.
The Plaza build at a
cost of 500million has a basement and nine floors. The Archdiocese intends to
have its offices on the 7th and 8th floor. The Conference
room and a cafeteria will be on the 9th floor, while the rest of the
offices will be rented out. There is also a data centre for information
technology which will be availed at a fee.

Present during the
official opening was Nairobi Archbishop Emeritus Ndingi Mwana a ‘Nzeki, Mombasa
Archbishop Emeritus John Jenga, Bishop Alfred Rotich, Ngong Diocese Bishop John
Oballa Owaa, Lodwar Diocese Bishop Dominic Kimengich, both of Nyahuhuru Diocese
Bishop Emeritus Luigi Paiaro, and Bishop Joseph
Mbatia; Priests,
religious men and women and hundreds of faithful.
The inauguration of
the Archdiocese offices comes 50 years after the blessing of the Cathedral.
