KENYA: The Social Teaching of the Church Calls for Stewardship, Transparency and Accountability, Says a Priest.

Finance administrators
and accountants working for the Catholic Church have been challenged to follow
the social teaching of the church as it calls for stewardship, transparency and
accountability in the management of the Church goods and finances in
particular.

Speaking on behalf of Kenya
Conference of Catholic Bishops General Secretary, during the closing of
education secretaries and finance administrators’ workshop at St. Joseph’s
spirituality center in Karen, Rev. Fr. Charles Odira said stewardship calls for
transparency and accountability because they have to convince the employer with
the correct financial procedures and to prove the expenditure with authentic
documents.
Fr. Odira reminded the
participants that they have been entrusted with the noble duty of managing the
finances of the catholic schools/institutions on behalf of the Church and
therefore need to give good service.
The four day Capacity
building workshop which ended on 8th August 2013 was organized by Kenya
Conference of Catholic Bishop, Commission for Education and Religious Education
and attended by more than fifty education secretaries and finance
administrators from different Catholic Dioceses.
