TANZANIA: OBAMA wraps up his Visit in Africa with a Pledge

US President Barack Obama has concluded his three-stop Africa tour in Tanzania with a pledge of a huge Project “Power for Africa” which includes three AMECEA member countries.
In this project the AMECEA member countries targeted are Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania. These are part of the six Countries within South of Sahara which will benefit from this big project on which US plans to invest $7 billion. Other countries are Liberia, Ghana and Nigeria.
Obama said that his country wishes that electricity supply is accessible in both cities and villages. Addressing the electricity problem Tanzania’s President Jakaya Kikwete said that one of the biggest hurdles to Africa’s economic development is the fact that nearly 70 percent of Africans lack access to electricity.”
“I believe that the purpose of development should be to build capacity and to help other countries actually to stand on their own feet,” he said.
