In a
consultative meeting with the Tanzanian Inspector General of Police Said Mwema,
Cardinal Pengo said Church leaders have great role to play in promoting security
without taking away the obligation of the state security organs to protect its
own citizens.

Church leaders have the ability to change people’s perceptions and actions
through preaching. Therefore, they can be very instrumental in helping the police
fight crime in the neighborhood and the entire society at large.

meeting, the Inspector General of Police said, “it is time for the Church
leaders and police to come together and join hands in the fight against crime
by ensuring that all criminals are apprehended and face the law.”

He said that the
increase in criminal cases is a big challenge to the Church leaders who have
the mandate of making sure that morals are upheld in the society.

The meeting was
also attended by Rt Rev Eusebius Nzigilwa and Rt Rev Titus Mdoe, Auxiliaries
