SOUTH SUDAN: Yei Diocese Celebrates Silver Jubilee

On the great day  occasion of Yei Diocese celebrating it’s Silver Jubilee last week, the President of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit has called for  joint efforts and cooperation between the government and the church in order to lay a strong foundation for peace and stability among the communities in the Republic of South Sudan.
President Kiir made the remarks when addressing the faithful in the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of the Catholic Diocese of Yei River County organized held at the “Christ is the King Parish” in Yei, under the theme “Service with the power of the Cross”.
President Kiir congratulated all the citizens of Yei River County for the success they gained in the last elections and referendum. He called on Yei River citizens to remain united. He also congratulated Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe, of Yei Diocese for keeping the diocese united in serving God and preaching peace and reconciliation.
President Kiir warned those seeking to destabilize livelihood in South Sudan that they will face justice. He gave direct orders to the Commissioner of Yei River County not to allow bars to operate during working hours and take necessary measures against anyone who violate this directives.
H.G. Paolino Lukudu Loro, of Juba diocese, said  more dioceses will be suggested by the bishops of South Sudan and the suggestion forwarded to the pope for approval. Bishop Lukudu urged the faithful not to surrender to the weaknesses of the body but serve God and build his church.
The Commissioner of Yei River County Rtd Maj Gen Elia Wai  said the church and the County government are working together in addressing challenges of the people. He appealed to the national government to avail tractors and other agricultural inputs to help the citizens of the county in agriculture.
The occasion was attended by bishops and representatives of all the Catholic dioceses from South Sudan and the Republic of Sudan.
