AMECEA: The Executive Board of AMECEA gets ready for a Meeting

THE AMECEA Secretariat is scheduled to host the AMECEA Executive Board meeting on 17th and 18th November, 2011. Members to this meeting include the AMECEA Chairman, Vice-Chairman, one representative from every member conference and the AMECEA Secretary General.
The executive board meeting is usually held twice in a year, this being the second for this year. The first one was held in May. This is the first time the Executive Board issitting after the 17th AMECEA Plenary Assembly which was held in Nairobi, last July.
According to Secretary General Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Lugonzo, the main agenda for this meeting will be the evaluation of the 17th AMECEA Plenary, which took place in Nairobi, Kenya from 28th June to 6th July 2011. The executive board members will be able to deliberate on the resolutions made during the plenary and how they can be implemented.
Members will also deliberate on pastoral issues arising from the member Episcopal Conferences and chat out ways to handling them in solidarity. In addition, Fr. Lugonzo said that members will be able to table out social and economic issues of concern that affects some of the member countries. He is hopeful that the executive board members through shared experience will be able to see how best the church can respond to such issues in solidarity with the people of God affected by the situations.
Also to be discussed is the AMECEA Region’s response to the Apostolic Exhortation of the Second Synod for Africa which will be released by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI on 20th November 2011 in Benin. AMECEA will be represented by the Chairman Most Rev Tarcisio Ziyaye and Rev Fr Jude Waweru, coordiantor of Justice and Peace Desk of AMECEA.
At the same time, special attention will be given to the newest republic in the world the Republic of South Sudan especially in regards to the pastoral situation in that country. At the same time the situation of the Church in Eritrea will also be given consideration during the meeting.
Meanwhile, on behalf of the AMECEA Chairman, His Grace Archbishop Tarcisius Gervazio Ziyaye, Archbishop of Blantyre, Malawi, the AMECEA Secretary General Fr. Lugonzo welcomes all the Executive Board members and wishes them a fruitful meeting.
